The Source of Summit Life Church
What are we built upon

As SLC grows there is wisdom in understanding what the foundation SLC is being built upon. It is unwise to build and then consider the foundation of a structure.

This is not to cause division or create a denominational line in the sand – in truth, any attempt to create division among believers is the work of Satan:

“When his disciples told Jesus that there were people casting out demons in His name Jesus said, don’t stop them… because eventually it will lead them to the truth of Christ because as long as they are not against me they are for me. (Mark 9:38-40)

The Source of Summit Life Church is the Word of God – and His Spirit.

Here is a brief overview of some foundational beliefs of Summit Life Church:

The Holy Scriptures – (2 Timothy 3:16) Scripture is the inspired words of God. They cannot be altered in any way; they are profitable for teaching, reproof, correction and training in righteousness – they are complete.

- The Scriptures will endure forever, are without error and are the only source of truth for man. (Psalm 119:160)

- The word of God is settled in heaven, eternal, Christ centered and magnified above God’s name. (Psalm 138:2, Mat 24:35, Psalm 119:89)

- All things that are written in the Word of God have taken place and will be fulfilled (Mark 14:49).

The Godhead – Deuteronomy 6:4 – “The LORD our God, the LORD is one.” We believe in a ‘monotheistic’ God - There is one God who exists in three distinct persons; the Father, Son and Holy Spirit. (Isaiah 44:8, Matthew 28:19)

- The Spirit glorifies the Son, the Son glorifies the Father and the Father takes pleasure in the Son. (John 17:1&4, John 16:14, Mat 3:17)

The Person and Work of Christ – (John 1:1-3) Christ came to undo the works of Satan and to reestablish the Kingdom of God on earth. He defeated the works of Satan and sin by being a perfect sacrifice that has been accepted by the Father as atonement for the sin of man.

- He is eternal, the creator of all things, God who became man (John 1:1-3)

- Christ died once and for all and will never die again, instead he will return to conquer Satan who be cast into the lake of fire for ever and ever. He will be enthroned and take His rightful place as the Lord of Lords and King of Kings. (Romans 6:9, Revelation 20:10, Revelation 19:16)

- He is the only name through which man may be saved. He is alive and sits at the right hand of the Father until he returns on the clouds. (Romans 10:9, Acts 1:9-10)

The Person and Work of the Holy Spirit – John 14:16-17 – “I will ask the Father and he will give you another Helper, to be with you forever, even the Spirit of Truth.”

- The Holy Spirit gives new birth and new life to a person the MOMENT they receive Christ as Savior. (John 3:5)

- He lives in each believer and seals (certifies) every believer until the day of redemption. (Ephesians 1:13-14)

- The Holy Spirit is present to bring comfort, convict the world concerning sin and righteousness and judgment. (John 16:8)

- The Holy Spirit guides us into all truth. (John 16:13)

- The Holy Spirit is given in full measure the moment of salvation. (1 Corinthians 12:13, John 3)

- The Holy Spirit ‘fills’ believers many times with power for the work of ministry. (Acts 2:4, 4:8, 4:31, 9:17).

- The Holy Spirit is revealed in Scripture but He is not restrained by Scripture.

- The Holy Spirit must demonstrate the same nature and truth of Jesus Christ (John 14:26)

The Condition of Man – Romans 3:23 – “For all have sinned and fallen short of the glory of God.”

- Originally man was created in god’s image (Gen 1:26) to exercise dominion over the earth.

- Because of the sin of one man (Adam) all have sinned. Man is now created in the image of Adam and must be ‘born again’ (spiritual birth) through regeneration. (Gen 5:3, John 3:3, Romans 5:12)

- It is impossible for man to enter eternal life by himself and all men are dead in their sin (Ephesians 2:1&5, 2:8-9)

- Man is separated from God until he recognizes his lost condition and turns to God through Jesus Christ (Romans 6:23)

Salvation – Ephesians 2:8-9 – “For it is by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God not a result of works, so that no one may boast.”

- Salvation is a gift from God offered to the world. A person either accepts it or rejects it. Those who accept it are born again and will spend eternity in heaven, those who reject it are self-condemned and will spend eternity in hell. (1 John 4:14, Ephesians 2:8, Romans 6:23, John 3:16-18, Titus 3:11, Mat 10:5)

- The only way for eternal salvation is through placing faith in the person and redemptive work of Jesus Christ. (John 14:6)

- There is no salvation apart from Christ (Acts 4:12)

- Salvation is not attained through; good works, keeping a set of rules or self-effort (Titus 3:5, Ephesians 2:8-9, Galatians 2:16)

- Salvation is secure and can never be lost. (John 6:37-40, John 10:27-29, Romans 8:30-39, Hebrews 10 )

- It is possible to know is you are saved (John 10:27, 1 John 5:11)

Spiritual Gifts - Romans 12:3-8. 1 Cor 12:4-11, Ephesians 4:11

- Exhortation, giving, leadership, mercy, prophesy, service, teaching, administration, apostle, discernment, faith, healing, knowledge, miracles, prophesy, tongues, interpretation of tongues, wisdom, evangelism, pastor, celibacy, hospitality, martyrdom, missionary, poverty. (Romans 12, 1 Cor 12, Ephesians 4, 1 Cor 7:7-8, 1 Peter 4:9-10, 1 Cor 13:3, Ephesians 3:6-8, 1 Cor 13:3)

Any gift not contained within these is counterfeit and of the Devil.

For instance the interpretation of dreams (NOTE: Individuals to whom dreams are given are to interpret those dreams with the Lords help Luke 1:26, Luke 2:13, Luke 2:19, ) , astrology(Isaiah 47:13-14, Deuteronomy 14:13) , fortune telling (Leviticus 20:6, Acts 16:16-18) palm reading...)

- Gifts are given by God for the edification of the body of Christ (1 Cor 12:1-11, 1 Peter 4:10)

- All gifts still exist and are given according to the Spirit; including:

· Tongues – 1 Cor 14 – sing for unbelievers (14:22) with an interpretation (14:5).
· (Tongues) Prayer language – (Romans 8:26 – intercedes with groans) (1 Cor 14:4 – builds himself up)
· Prophesy – 1 Cor 14:24 – “But if all prophesy, the secrets of the heart are disclosed and it is a sign to all that God is among you.”

NOTE: Prophesy is to reveal what is in man’s heart not their sins.

· Healing – Mark 14:6 – These signs shall follow those who believe..; they shall lay their hands on the sick and they shall recover.”

NOTE: We are not told simply to pray for the sick… we are told to heal them.

· Miracles – the renewed mind considers the impossible logical.

A believer does not lack any spiritual gift and receives them at the moment of accepting Christ. (2 Timothy 3:17. 1 Cor 1:7)

5 Fold Ministry – (Ephesians 4:11) = gifts to men

- Apostle = doctrine and discipline = oversight and influence over churches and are recognized as having authority by those churches. “A Pastors, Pastor”.

- Prophet = "One who is sent" - is anointed to perceive and speak the mind of Christ to individuals, churches, countries and nations that never contradicts scripture. Should work with Apostles/Pastors for oversight and accountability.

- Evangelist = Gather people to Christ and presents the Gospel of Christ to the lost

- Pastor – is called to protect and guard the body of Christ entrusted to them. To care for the everyday needs of the church family

- Teacher = is called to instruct the Church in the practical application of God’s Word.

The establishment of order and authority in the church (1 Corinthians 14, Ephesians 4:11-13):

Why is this important?

“We can’t believe what we do not understand.”

- NOTE: In the case of God… while we are not capable of understanding all - we are capable of knowing Him through His Son, His word and His ways.

· Moses said – show me your ways God that I may know you.”

Theology works in tandem with revelation to bring about encounter.

If we do not understand what we believe we are restricted in our belief.

Because of a lack of understanding what and why we believe the light on a hill has been placed on a street corner - we have taken the light – the hope and desire of the nations – and have placed it under a basket.

“When we don’t sense the presence of God – we must be able to turn to His principals.”

- ‘God I can’t feel you leading me… but I know what you have told me and I choose to believe that.’

- God is not excited about the discussion of His principals but with the application of them.

“If you will create a history with God and His word – he will change history with your words.”

“God will always play the hand that we deal Him.”

- If I am not even aware of the rules of the game how will I ever be successful?

“Faith comes from hearing (today) – not by having heard the Word of God.”

- Our faith today depends on our hearing today.

Babel – man made design, entirely human effort, and will colapse (Genesis 11:1-9)

Bethel – God dwells here… no building necessary – but nevertheless a house of God that the gates of hell will not overtake. (Genesis 28:12-22)
